API Gateway

An API gateway is a software layer that provides the single entry point for the many different APIs in a microservices architecture. It acts as a client to the backend services, mediator for all kinds of operations like request routing, authentication and protocol translation from many client applications. This gateway helps manage APIs in an easier way providing single point monitoring for developers that enables them to tend to individual services rather than brokering their way through a complex set of APIs.
