Add-on Domain

An add-on domain is an extra domain that you can host under one web hosting account. Think of it as having multiple websites but paying for just one hosting plan. This is especially useful for businesses or individuals who want to run different sites without needing multiple hosting accounts.

Functionality:

An add-on domain is its own distinct site with its own content, settings, and management options. For example, you can upload files, create databases, and create email accounts specific to that domain-all while sharing the use of server resources with your primary domain. In other words, though all add-ons are hosted under the same account, each is independent from the rest, thus allowing flexibility and isolating projects between each other.

Advantages:

Following are the advantages of having an add-on domain.

Money Saving:

This saves you the need to buy many hosting plans for various websites and allows you to manage everything in a single hosting account. This reduces your expenses while scaling up with the growth of your online presence.

Simplified Administration:

Hosting several domains on the same account makes administration easier. You can oversee all your domains, their settings, and related resources from one unified control panel.

Add-on domains are ideal for expansion purposes, especially for businesses or individuals looking to expand. For instance, you can host a portfolio site side by side with an e-commerce store or separate domains for different product lines without creating additional hosting accounts.

Real-Life Example:

Imagine a software development company with a number of websites hosted on a single hosting account. All these add-on domains would signify different projects; for instance, a landing page for a new app or an industry insight blog. Using add-on domains will allow the company to save money on hosting while maintaining segregation between different projects. This means the developers will not interfere with others while working on each website separately.

Addon domains therefore provide hosting of multiple websites within one account for minimal costs and high efficiency. They are ideal for businesses that are growing as they allow for flexibility and scale, providing an easy way of managing diverse online projects.
